Pia Meling, VP Sales & Marketing of Massterly, the world’s first company set up to operate autonomous vessels, will introduce us to their ongoing projects to automate the maritime market. Massterly is a joint venture between Wilhelmsen and Kongsberg with the aim to enable a shift in transport from road to sea; through cost-effective, safe and environmentally friendly logistics.
We will hear about the Norwegian grocery distributor ASKO who is replacing 2 million kilometers of truck transport with zero-emission, autonomous vessels, cutting 5 000 tonnes of potential CO2 emissions every year. Trailers will be transported across the Oslo fjord aboard unmanned vessels and then transferred to electric trucks in port, ensuring a competitive and emission free transport system for ASKO. Kongsberg Maritime is providing the technology and system integration while Massterly will manage the operation of the vessels from a remote operations center.
We would also like to stimulate to a discussion among the participants at this meeting, and we invite you to vote on what subjects you would like to hear about when you sign up:
- Technical requirements for unmanned vessels
- Competency requirements for operators working from Remote Operations Centres
- Legal framework, approval scheme and class guidelines
- Ethical considerations when using Artificial Intelligence for decision making
- How the arrival of autonomous vessels enable new business models
- Other (please specify)
